Oscarstravaganza: Best Costume Design 2010

The Best Costume Design Oscar was introduced in 1948 and until 1957 it honored costuming for color and black and white films seperately. The big winner in the category is the legendary Edith Head, who collected 8 Oscars out of 35 nominations.

This year's nominees:

Janet Patterson, Bright Star: This is Patterson's 4th nomination. She also received a BAFTA nomination and I really hope she wins because Bright Star isn't nominated anywhere else and I really want it to win something.

Catherine Leterrier, Coco Before Chanel: This is Leterrier's 1st Oscar nomination, though she's been frequently recognized for her work in her native France by the Cesar Awards. She also received nominations from the BAFTAs and the Costume Designers Guild.

Monique Prudhomme, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus: This is Prudhomme's 1st Oscar nomination. She also received a nomination from the Costume Designers Guild.

Colleen Atwood, Nine: This is Atwood's 8th nomination and she has won twice previously for her work in Chicago and Memoirs of a Geisha - so, obviously, Rob Marshall is her lucky charm. She also received a nomination from the Costume Designers Guild.

Sandy Powell, The Young Victoria: This is the 8th nomination for Powell and she has won twice previously for The Aviator and Shakespeare In Love. She has received BAFTA and Costume Designers Guild nominations.
