Attitude? Check. Short fuse? Check. Proficiency with whatever weapon happens to be near by? Check. Seriously, don't mess with Lisbeth.
That image of her in suspended animation before giving a beat down is now iconic, as is her general badassery. Easily my favourite character in the series.
She killed and maimed her way through 2 movies so there's really nothing left for her to prove. Best course of action: let her live her quiet life because if you give her a reason to seek vengeance, it ain't gonna be pretty.
I don't know if you've ever seen Terminator 2 but that is a friggin gun show. Besides, any woman who can hold her own against robots from the future has my undying respect.
Six words: "Get away from her you bitch!"

Wow... How bizarre. I once wrote an article on the top 10 kick-ass action females in cinema and thoroughly enjoyed it - because it made me go and watch all the films again.
So I love your choices... although I haven't seen Dragon Tattoo and I'm wondering if the character will have the same subtleties she had in the book.
Still... my kick-ass females of note would include... ALL the female cast in 'The Descent', Linda Hamilton in 'Terminator', Sigourney Weaver in 'Alien', Lola in 'Run Lola Run', and Michelle Yeoh in 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'.
Like you, I'm looking forward to 'Salt'...
My bad. You didn't mention 'Salt'. Sorry - that just slipped into my comment - thought I saw a pic of it. Clearly I'm really, really looking forward to that :)
Great list!!! These ladies sure kick ass.
Awesome list!
I would have put Beatrix Kiddo at number one!
@Madgestic: I didn't want to jump the gun regarding Salt since I haven't seen it, though I have no doubt that she kicks ass.
@Blake: I dunno... Ripley and Sarah Connor are pretty tough cookies.
@Norma: I haven't seen any of the Millenium films or Alien. However, I've read the first book in the Millenium series so, I'm sure Lisbeth Salander has her place in a top five list of women who kick ass.
On another note, here are my choices with no order of preference:
1. Shu Lien (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon).
2. Cameron Phillips (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles).
3. The Bride (Kill Bill).
4. Trinity (Matrix)
5. Lee Geum-ja (Lady Vengeance).
Awesome. I've just started an art series of kickass women in films and these are all on my list! I also dig Angela Basset in Strange Days, Tank Girl, Foxy Brown, Kaori Momoi in Sukiyaki Western Django, Yanin Vismistananda in Chocolate, and Rose MacGowan in Planet Terror.
