I had no trouble with the ending other than that I wondered why Lea had to investigate what Juliet had done; it would seem she could easily consult news accounts of the trial. The film is so driven by two heartfelt performances that its ending - if it was flawed - did not mar my appreciation of it. As you said, Thomas says so much about her character in silence.
